The Village Church Ministry Centre
The palette is a simple but timeless mix of metal, concrete, glass, and wood that allows the building to be durable but warm, solid yet transparent. The perforated metal screen opens up to reveal the more active interior spaces. These fully glazed areas are protected from the summer sun by the wood clad enclosure that provides shade as well as space for exterior terraces on level 2 and 3. Outside the building, covered exterior seating areas and a children’s park encourages the activity within the building to continue outside.
The atrium forms the dynamic core of the Village Church community where people connect, forge relationships, and foster a sense of belonging. It is a dramatic triple volume space that provides natural daylight from the skylights above and visually interconnects all floors to orient visitors. The feature stair creates vantage points at multiple elevations to observe across the atrium that is enlivened with the buzz of activity in the multi-purpose room, lounge and cafe.
The auditorium is the heart of the Ministry Centre that reaches out with light, story, and song to the community creating a sense of belonging, inspiration and transformation. The room’s design is inspired by our focus on community and seamlessly bridges the gap between the physical and the digital through an innovative use of technology, materials, light, and form.
Families are greeted by a playful, inviting hangout space and outdoor terrace with direct connection to the Village Kids wing as well as the adjoining 3 story open atrium. The family hangout zone provides an interactive outlet for children and their parents to gather, play, and connect with other families.
The rooftop patio houses an event space with a backdrop of impressive mountain views to the south. An outdoor kitchen and bar are available for church and public events. A covered canopy allows year round use of the fire table and cozy hangout zones where guests can participate in Village Church classes and events.
Classrooms are designed to serve the Village Kids program on Sundays as well as the School of Ministry programs on weekdays and adult programs on weeknights. Classrooms are oriented to maximize daylight and views of nature. Bright, neutral wall and ceiling finishes act as an open canvas to the wide variety of activities. Elements of colour and wood are introduced at entry portals creating defined moments as you navigate the 2nd floor classroom area.
The multipurpose space on Level 1 acts as an extension to the atrium providing a gathering space that can be easily reconfigured to accommodate both Ministry events such as Senior Youth and Young Adults, and greater community functions. An on premises commercial kitchen provides opportunities for catering large and small events. The feature LED wall transforms the space into a dynamic light display that can be customized to the specific mood or settings of events.
The office floors are organized in a rhythm of “neighbourhoods”, punctuated by lounge seating or team work spaces, oriented for maximum daylight and views to the outdoors. Staff are provided with options of alternative workstations encompassing both collaborative spaces and niches for quiet focus. Build finishes and colour activate the collaborative spaces sparking creativity and inspiration.
